Compost: Recomposing Relations is a performance, immersive art installation, and film launch produced by Sweet Labour Art Collective. The impetus for this piece occurred when Billy, a two-spirit Oneida artist (Turtle Clan of Oneida), and one of the originators of the Sweet Labour Art collective died. Billy asked us to continue to think with him and “take his body on tour” as we explore how loss and death can be refolded in a collective artistic process. The event will include a participatory altar installation (please bring a photo of an ancestor (human or non-human) or an object to place on the altar. Food (soup and cornbread) will be served and clay bowls will be available to purchase for $25 (all proceeds from the sale of the bowls will go to Oneida language learning materials for children, through Waky^tehta’uhati’ (‘I’m learning’) with Brooke Chrisjohn).
