Welcome to the Judge’s Corner
Thank you for agreeing to adjudicate entries to the first annual Aeolian Songwriting Contest.
The following information will assist you in completing the task of reviewing the entries that we have received.
THE SONGS
For your convenience, we have catalogued all of the submissions in a single audio playlist:
To keep the submissions private, once you click the above link you will need to enter the a password to access the page. The password is: songs
Some of the songs in mp4 format will download to your computer due to the type of file. Hopefully, you won’t have any issues with this. If you do, please reach out to us.
Scrolling down below the playlist, you will find a list of lyrics in PDF format (sorted by songwriter last name) if they were submitted.
PRIVACY
For your protection, and ours, we ask that each of you review and agree to the Aeolian Confidentiality Agreement which you can access and sign digitally here:
We ask that you not disclose any information about the contest, the entries, the songs etc. out of fairness for everyone that entered.
SHORT LIST
You are welcome to listen to all of the entries. We hope that you will. That said, there are a lot of them and we have listened to them already. Should you find any songs released already, please let us know as this is against the rules of the contest. We tried to groom the selections accordingly.
We have provided you the entire play list.
But we have also created a short list: SHORT LIST
Not sure about those choices? We have also prepare a slightly longer list of additional songs that did not quite make our short list: ADDITIONAL SONGS NOT ON SHORT LIST
You are welcome to use these resources to support your work if you wish.
JUDGING
We have created an online form to judge each song. You simply enter the song number, songwriter name and song name from the play list as well as your score (out of 7) for each of the 10 categories for a total score out of 70. When judging, remember that the themes for this contest are FREEDOM, HOPE and JUSTICE.
Your scoring information will be automatically uploaded to a spreadsheet that you can access for the purposes of comparison.
If you made an error, and need to change a score, email clark@aeolianhall.ca and ask for assistance. We can make the change for you. Should you have any issues with this way of judging, please let us know and we can discuss an alternative format.

The Winners
Please let us know when you have completed the judging process. We will tabulate your score sets so that each song has a total prorated to 100 points.
The top three songs will be vetted one additional time to ensure that they meet all of the rules of the contest (new, unreleased, residency, etc). Vetting has been completed but our due diligence is important.
In the event of a tie for 1st, 2nd or 3rd place, we will ask you to come to a consensus.
Deadline
We aim to announce the winner in December, 2023. Please complete judging tallies by December 1st, 2023. If this short timeline is problematic, let us know. We estimate approximately 2-3 hours to accomplish the judging.
