Designated in 2012 the City’s first Heritage Tree is between 250-300 year old. The White Oak is located in the Westminster Ponds Environmentally Significant Area. This beloved tree is known as The Meeting Tree. It is the focal point for yearly celebrations of Freedom from Slavery on Emancipation Day. Through stories passed down from generation to generation, this tree was a meeting place for those seeking freedom and traveling along the Underground Railroad. This tree is one of very few old trees still standing within the City of London. View it’s Heritage Certificate here.
