John Kenny, Guitar
John’s attachment to the guitar began around the time he was eight, when his uncle Lorenzo would drop by the house and play Hank Williams and Johnny Cash songs on his Silvertone.
By the time he was in grade eight, he was playing at church dances and school parties across Toronto in return for pop and cookies.
He has since had extensive employment and musical experience in Jazz, Rock, Pop, Country, Rhythm & Blues and Ethnic bands, having performed in theatres, recording studios and on television and radio as well as nightclubs across Canada and the USA. He is probably the only musician in the business who, during his career, has jammed with the DUKE ELLINGTON BAND and performed with TVO’s POLKAROO.
Rob Weatherstone, Bass
Rob Weatherstone – Electric bass, upright bass, vocals, tuba Rob Weatherstone is a seasoned professional musician and stalwart of the London, Ontario music scene. His experience includes almost ten years of touring Canada and the northeastern USA in various shows, a stint at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and more recently live, session, and theatre work.
Over the years, Rob has played for over sixty different theatre productions, including Jesus Christ Superstar, The Rocky Horror Show, Cats, Seussical, Rent, and many many more. He has worked with acclaimed bands and artists, including the Joe Edmonds Jazz Quartet, Grammy award winning vocalist Matt Alber, 2020 FCLMA award winner Megan Schroder presents The Music of Patsy Cline, and JLRMA awarded Enchanté, with singers/songwriters Laurraine Sigouin and Jake Levesque.
Rob is currently working with artists including Scott Bollert and A Taste of Sinatra, The London Rhythm & Soul Revue, LP Soul, Uptown Affair, and DoubleClutch, a 2018 JRLMA award winner. Upcoming projects include recording with independent songwriter Crystal Kirk, and working with tribute show Genesis Live. He is also the the tuba player for Hot Sauce, a Dixieland band.
Rob is at home playing a wide variety of styles, from blues to jazz, Bowie to Sondheim, and holding down the groove with a smile. Performing with his new ensemble, Cool Shoes, is giving him a chance to use all of his influences and stretch his skills even more.
sandy McKay, Drums
Drummer Sandy MacKay has been part of the Southwestern Ontario music scene for over 50 years. Originally from Ingersoll, he moved to London in 1969 to play with the rock group Truck and subsequently with the groups Persuasion,Tanis and Terry Dee’s Flying Rock and Roll Circus.
He was a regular participant in the FM96 “Live from the Marienbad” jazz radio broadcasts 1980-1983 hosted by Janice Zolf.
From 1984-1989 he held the drum chair with the Juno-nominated (1985) Oliver Whitehead Quintet and appeared at Montreal Jazz Festival, Ottawa Jazz Festival, Toronto DuMaurier Jazz Festival, Montreaux-Detroit Jazz Festival, Edmonton ‘s Jazz City and Vancouver ‘s World Expo ’86.
From 1983-1998 he played drums for the dance band Hawthorne.
Sandy has been the Artistic Director of the JAZZ FOR THE PEOPLE concert series at the Wolf Performance Hall in London, Ontario since 1986, presenting + playing over 250 concerts.
He currently drums with the Nevin Campbell Trio, the Ken Foster Quartet, Rick Kish & Friends Combo,Laurraine Segouin & Enchante, The “Young Ones”,Roy “Elvis” Leblanc, The Ernies, The Stetson Brothers,and jazz vocal trio Take Three.
He is a frequent guest announcer on the “Jazz Junction” radio show, heard Sundays 9 AM – 1PM worldwide at www.1069thex.com(106.9FM) and since September 2012, hosts “The Beautiful Ones” jazz radio show Tuesdays 9 PM 99.9fm Faith FM London .
In 2011, Sandy was chosen by his peers to be the recipient of the Forest City London Music Award, Jazz Instrumentalist Distinction.
