If you have been paying any attention to the independent music scene in London over the last decade, you should recognize the name Aaron Allen. Aaron and his band, the Small City Saints, are a mainstay in London’s folk and country communities. Their brand of traditional country music is built around a solid foundation of songwriting. Think Willie Nelson or Steve Earle rather than Toby Keith and Blake Shelton.  Songs about heartache and hard times root their music firmly with the country genre but avoid the cliched tropes that are repeatedly heard on Top 40 Radio. Heartfelt and sophisticated lyrics reach out and grab the audience while impeccable musicianship provides an inviting background that promotes close listening.

While Aaron’s band had different members over their years, the current lineup is formed from a “who’s who” list of London music. On guitar and backing vocals is Juno Award-winning Producer Dan Broadbeck. Tara Dunphy of The Rizdales plays the fiddle and adds backing harmonies. Archie Gamble, formerly of The Joys and Simon Larochette of Sugar Shack Recording Studio fill out the rhythm section on drums and bass.  The full band comes together on Friday, April 27 at The Aeolian Hall to celebrate the release of Aaron’s newest album “Judgement Day”. The first single from the album “Rambling Man” can be viewed below.

Opening the show is another local London artist, Aistis Cepinkas. Performing with a full band under the moniker “Aistis”, his debut album “Love Me, I’m Bored” was released in the spring of 2017 and was supported by a full East-Coast Canadian tour. Like Aaron Allen, Aistis’ music starts with thoughtful and relatable songwriting. His backing band borrows the traditions of country music such as steel guitar but has more in common with the alternative country stylings of Jeff Tweedy and his band Wilco, Ryan Adams, Blue Rodeo, or Skydiggers. Listen to the audio of his single “Consumer” by clicking on the link below.

Tickets for this show are only $15, considerably less expensive than most shows at The Aeolian. However, the price of the ticket is no reflection upon the quality of the show. At The Aeolian, we strongly believe that just because something is local, doesn’t mean it isn’t also WORLD CLASS! Please join us, Aaron, Aistis, and their bands on Friday, April 27 for a local music show like no other. Tickets are available by phone (519.672.7950), in person, (795 Dundas St. East), online (www.aeolinahall.ca), or directly from either band.
