The Aeolian Hall Musical Arts Association is a not-for-profit organization that values universal access to music performance and education. Our programs build better, stronger communities. We have been a cornerstone of arts and music in London and Old East Village for almost two decades. The COVID pandemic has challenged the way we deliver to students and patrons, but it has left us more determined than ever to meet our goals.

the impact of your support

Your financial gifts are a part of this success. Your support has ensured safe, consistent programming for children and youth in a time of confusion. Your support has kept musicians on the stage. Your support has ensured that our community stays strong. Your support has kept our lights on, and our team waiting near the doors: anxious to open them again to friends and family.

Enjoy a year in the life of our Aeolian with the documentary below, capturing highlights and successes of our last year.

Being Good at Being Us

The challenge remains: our programs need you, they need your financial support to continue building communities, to continue enriching lives through music and the arts and to continue to light the way for others. YOU have always been a part of our story. What chapter have you written. What is your Aeolian story. Help us to tell our story by being part of it’s delivery. What is your Aeolian?  Let’s keep on this journey. Despite all we’ve seen and all we have been through as a people, better days are ahead. We can be part of that promise, together.

The arts enlighten, inspire and transform individuals, helping us build strong, healthy and vibrant communities. El Sistema Aeolian provides an opportunity for children, youth and their communities to experience a free, intensive, innovative and accessible after school music program. We provide expert instruction in a nurturing, safe and inclusive environment allowing participants to develop their full social and musical potential.

We see a world in which all children and youth experience the joy and inspiration of music. The skills they will learn are transferable and include social engagement, inclusiveness, leadership, pursuit of excellence and creative learning styles. These skills and pathways will open new horizons and alternative pathways for these young people. It will assist them to achieve their full potential and enrich our communities.

While the last year had its share of by uncertainty and change, El Sistema Aeolian has continued to provide a safe, nurturing learning environment for young musicians. Learning was both virtual and in-person, out of doors and inside our learning space. A virtual concert occured in March. PriDE MEN’S Chorus London

Community is a sense of belonging and a feeling that members of a group matter to one another and to the group. During these unprecedented times, creating a sense of community, friendship and inclusivity has been especially important. Statistics Canada reports that the 2SLGBTQIA+ community may be more at risk from the economic fallout of the pandemic, as well as the toll on mental health, compared to their heterosexual counterparts.

Pride Men’s Chorus London is more than just a choir. It’s a community. It’s a family. Member Eric Jamieson said, “This is a part of my community. I’ve never had people who are like me to look up to. I’ve never felt more at home.” For people like Eric, the Chorus has been a lifeline to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, at a time when most people felt the pangs of loneliness, separated from friends and loved ones, as we were forced to isolate at home.

Highlights of the Last Year

  • online rehearsals and social activities during the pandemic
  • a heart-wrenching rendition of “Bring Him Home” from the musical, “Les Miserables” at a special streamed performance for World AIDS Day (a collaboration with Regional HIV-AIDS Connection).
  • performing a virtual Christmas concert, to brighten the spirits of our friends and followers.
  • participation in the concert for peace.
  • the Chorus collaborated with Grammy-nominated and Dove Award-winning country music artist, Ty Herndon.
  • performing at the Pride Celebration for Siloam United Church.
  • Premier performance of “Brave” a celebration of 2SLGBTQ+ history on the aeolian stage in the spring.

…is many, many things.

Iconic Canadian indigenous singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie noted in our guest book that the Aeolian is her favourite venue in the world off the reservation. For many, the Aeolian is more than a concert venue or music program – it is family, it is friendship, it is community.

Aeolian is a way of life.
